Tayyibah Taylor

Tayyibah Taylor was born into a Christian family in Trinidad but converted to Islam at the age of 19 years old. She dedicated her life to working within the interfaith community and traveled to Turkey, Spain, Morocco, Jerusalem, Greece and Jordan working with individuals from all backgrounds. Her travels eventually took her to meet the Dalai Lama as part of the Islam-Buddhism Common Ground Event in 2010. Although she traveled frequently, her home base was Atlanta, Georgia where she served on the board of directors for Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters and the Women’s Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equality. In 1999, Tayyibah founded Azizah Magazine, which was written by and for Muslim women and published by WOW Publishing in Atlanta, Georgia. Although under different publishing, the magazine continues to be published and shared around the world. Because of her incredible work in advocating for Muslim women everywhere, she was named as one of Ten American Muslim Women You Should Know by The Huffington Post and attended the White House iftar in 2011. Tayyibah passed away in 2014 at the young age of 62 years old.
