Nadiya Hussain



Nadiya Hussain was born in 1984 in Luton, England to a British Bangladeshi family. She was raised in a family of six, with three sisters and two brothers. When she was younger, she was diagnosed with panic disorder, something she would later chronically mentally in a book about childhood anxiety, My Monster and Me. She taught herself how to cook at a young age, watching videos on YouTube and learning from recipe books. In 2015, she appeared on the sixth series of The Great British Bake Off, which she would go on to win. After the show, she developed a following of online fans, who describe themselves as Naidyators. Following her success of GBBO, she was a presenter on a food travelogue, The Chronicles of Nadiya. On the show she traveled to Bangladesh to trace her culinary roots and explore the culinary history of the country. After the success from this series on BBC One, she went on to host a number of other cooking themed shows. She has also written a number of books and is a contributing editor to BBC’s Good Food and in 2016, she was commissioned to bake the Queens 90th birthday cake. One of her most memorable quotes comes from her acceptance speech on GBBO when she said “I’m never gonna our boundaries on myself ever again. I’m never gonna say I can’t do it. I’m never gonna say maybe. I’m never gonna say I don’t think I can. I can and I will.’
