Iman Mohamad Jodeh @imanforcolorado was born in Colorado to Palestinian Muslim parents. She grew up in Aurora before moving to Denver to study at the University of Colorado Denver, where she earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degree. In 2008, Iman founded the Meet the Middle East Alliance, whose mission is to develop communicate and bridge the gap between misunderstanding between Americans and “the most misunderstood region in the world”. In 2020, she was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives, representing the 41st district, including Aurora where she was raised. Her win say her defeat her Republican opponent with 65.86% of the vote and made her the first Muslim lawmaker in Colorado history. She was endorsed by Bernie Sanders during her campaign. Despite the history her election has made, Iman states “I’m not running to be the first, and that was never my intention. I’m running because I feel like my lived experiences have the ability to influence progressive policy and move the needle in a positive and progressive way”. She supports lower prescription drug prices, paid family leave, and better access to emergency services.
