Fahma Mohamed

ahma Mohamad is a British Female Genital Mutilation Activist who has dedicated her life to ending FGM. She was born in 1996 in The Netherlands but moved to Bristol, England with her family. After she attended an after school session about FGM, she decided she wanted to actively campaign against the practice. She started officially campaigning at the age of 14 when she joined End FG project with Integrate Bristol. 3 years later in 2014, the project launched an online petition, which gained 250,000 signatures and support from Malala Yousafzai and Ban Ki-Moon, then UN Secretary General. Because of her activism, Fahma was invited to meet her with the UK Secretary of Education who she encouraged to write to schools across the country encouraging them to introduce an FGM curriculum to their schools. As a result of her activism, a compulsory training has been introduced to the public sector in the country, training teachers, doctors and social workers to identify and assist young girls at risk for FGM. In 2016, at the age of 19 years old, she became the youngest person in the UK to receive an honorary degree when she was awarded a Doctorate of Law from Bristol University. She is now studying Biomedical Sciences at King’s College London and continues to campaign for women’s rights, including forced child marriage, online sexual abuse, and FGM.
